THE BEATLES Joan Baez BOB DYLAN Barbra Streisand Original 1964 Concert Program
This is a guaranteed original (printed before the concert) concert program featuring a series of six amazing concerts. FOREST HILLS MUSIC FESTIVAL. BARBRA STREISAND – July 12, 1964. Trini Lopez, Count Basie, Woody Allen – July 25. Harry Belafonte, Miriam Makeba, Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee – July 31-August 2. JOAN BAEZ with BOB DYLAN (unannounced) – August 8. Johnny Mathis – August 15. THE BEATLES – August 28 & 29. All appearing as part of the 1964 Forest Hills Music Festival, an annual series of concerts in Forest Hills, Queens, New York City. They would produce a program for each year and for the particular concert you were attending there would be a special centerfold page inserted (usually stapled) into the middle of the program. That’s how you know which concert the program was from. The 1964 program, becuase it was the year that The Beatles played this festival is the rarest of the FOrest Hills Festival programs. In 40+ years or searching I have only ever found one copy that had The Beatles as the special insert page. This program, which I have owned since I obtained it from the person that attended this show is from the August 8, 1964 Joan Baez show where Joan brought out her special guest (and boyfriend at the time) BOB DYLAN to perform with her and they performed: 1 Mama, You Been On My Mind; 2 It Ain’t Me, Babe; and 3 With God On Our Side. It is well documented. An exceptionally rare item, indeed. I have only seen a handful of the program from this year and, As I said, only one copy with The Beatles center insert, and only this one copy with the Joan Baez center insert. Very, very rare, especially in this condition! It is completely intact with no splits, no staple rust, as is common on programs of this era, no tears, folded pages, writing or significant waer other than some minor foxing on the front and back cover (visible in my photos) and some foxing on the page preceding and after the center insert, as well. It measures 9 x 12 inches and is 60 pages plus the covers and plus the center insert. THIS IS AN ULTRA RARE ITEM! You will not be disappointed with this item in your collection. 1966 THE BEATLES original German concert poster (Bravo Blitztournee Tour) Lennon
1966 The Beatles original German concert poster. An original concert poster from The Beatles 1966. The superstars arrived in June 1966 for a three day, six concert tour, playing shows in Munich, Essen and Hamburg. It was their first visit since 1962 and this time, Beatlemania infected not only the fans, but also the media which had long been covering the ascension of the “four choirboys from Liverpool” with more suspicion than curiosity. This poster was the only one made for the tour and used to promote all of The Beatles performances in 1966. The concerts were initiated and sponsored by the German youth magazine Bravo and organized by promoter Karl Buchmann. It would be the only German tour that the Fab Four completed. This is an authentic first printing poster from 1966. It measures 23 1/4 x 32 3/4 and is in good vintage condition. The original folds are present as this is how the posters were issued off the printer. Many years of previous display have caused the red ink to fade significantly. One small piece of paper missing from the top edge (in Lennon’s hair). Minor splitting to the edges of some fold lines have been professionally reinforced from behind. The item “1966 THE BEATLES original German concert poster (Bravo Blitztournee Tour) Lennon” is in sale since Sunday, July 28, 2019. 1962 THE BEATLES original concert poster (Heswall Jazz Club) John Lennon
1962 The Beatles original concert poster. On June 30th 1962 The Beatles performed for the second of three times at the Heswall Jazz Club. The concert actually took place at the Barnston Women’s Institute on Barnston Road, Heswall. The Fab Four appeared together with The Big Three and the still relatively unknown boys were announced as “Parlophone Recording Artists”, having JUST been signed to EMI’s small spin off label by George Martin. Martin’s first recording session with the Beatles took place at EMI’s Abbey Road Studios in London on the 6th June 1962. Martin immediately complained to Brian Epstein about Pete Best’s poor drumming and suggested they use a session drummer in his place. Already contemplating Best’s dismissal, the Beatles replaced him in mid-August with Ringo Starr, who left Rory Storm and the Hurricanes to join them. And as the saying goes, the rest is history! Offered here is an exceptionally rare original poster advertising the performance at the Barnston Women’s Institute on June 30th. The pale blue poster measures 20 x 30 inches and has been stored folded (several times each way) for many years. Bold black and red print announces “An All Star Show – Merseyside’s Joy – The Fabulous Beatles”. Printed by Arthurs Press Ltd. The condition can be described as fair/good. There are multiple tears, creasing throughout, soiling and age related toning to the paper. All the paper is present in it’s original form. No restoration or alterations have been made. This second Heswall Jaz Club outing came at a pivotal time in the Beatles history. They had just signed the recording contract which would lead them to chart topping success, a wave of Beatlemania and subsequent worldwide fame. Within days of the Heswall performance Pete Best was fired from the group and replaced by Ringo Starr, forming the Beatles line up that will forever be remembered. 1963 THE BEATLES original concert poster (Town Hall Ballroom Abervagenny) Lennon
1963 The Beatles original concert poster (Town Hall Ballroom, Abervagenny). A highly sought after original concert poster advertising The Beatles performance at the Town Hall Ballroom, Abervagenny on Saturday 22nd June 1963. In what was their only performance at the Town Hall, the boys played for around twenty minutes in front of a modest 600 fans. John Lennon arrived in the nick of time, having been at the BBC’s Television Theatre to record an edition of’Juke Box Jury’. After the taping finished he was rushed to Battersea Heliport and flown to Wales in a specially-chartered helicopter. He landed at the Pen y Pound football ground in Abergavenny at almost 10pm and joined the other Beatles just in time to take the stage. Paul, George and Ringo had driven to Abergavenny earlier in the day in their van and were treated to a civic reception hosted by the Mayor and Mayoress. The concert came at a time when the Fab Four’s popularity was starting to spread, although it wasn’t until late 1963 that “Beatlemania” really took hold. The poster measures 20 x 30 inches and has been stored folded for many years. There is some fading to the yellow print, mainly towards the bottom of the poster and stretching up into the’E’ and’A’ in’BEATLES’. A few small spots of soiling and a couple of minor tears to the edges and where the folds intersect. Overall in very good vintage condition. The poster originates from the collection of former British music promoter Alan Goldsmith, who has 50 years experience producing rock & roll concerts, air/stunt shows and exhibitions. He is the owner & creator of Mountfitchet Castle and The House on the Hill, the largest toy museum in the world. Goldsmith is also the author of the book Giving it Both Barrels! , in which he spills the beans on his fascinating life as a 1960’s rock promoter. Included with the poster is a signed note from Alan Goldsmith stating that it came from his personal concert poster collection and referring to the aforementioned book.
