Brian Ewing’s work is a visual kick in the face! Perfect for posters his art captures a surreal world where beautiful girls, zombies & skull people exist only to share the soundtrack of your life, until your ears explode! Check out my other items. Brian’s perpspective on his piece. This is my 1st installment of the “Stitched Girl” series. Just trying to figure out what I wanted to get on paper. Experimenting with backgrounds, text and color combos. I was kinda worried how they would be received… Especially by my female friends. So far so good. I’ve had people offer to pose for the series after I told them what the blood and stitches mean. This piece was inspired by a few people I know. It originally started off as a sketch for the Tsunami Bomb tour poster (the character had clothes on then) but the client opted for skulls over girls. This was originally for another band but it never got printed. I was trying out a new printer that wanted my biz but couldn’t deliver. Someone there had a small problem with the subject matter and refused to print it. All the while, I’m in New York on the Warped Tour, and had no way of getting it to another printer. I didn’t own a laptop, and it never occurred to me to bring a copy of the file with me. The work was done and it sat there. I was bummed, the venue was bummed, the band was bummed and their label was bummed. So here it is, new band and background, and it got printed. I’m happier with this version. I’m a huge fan of Jake Bannon and Converge, so I’m proud that it was used for a cool band. Converge was formed in the winter of 1990 by Jacob Bannon and Kurt Ballou. They started by playing covers of hardcore punk, punk rock and heavy metal songs, being self-confessed “hardcore kids with left-over Slayer riffs”. The band soon graduated to playing live performances in 1991, after recording some demos on a 4-track recorder and eventually releasing full lengths including When Forever Comes Crashing and splits with bands like Agoraphobic Nosebleed. In recent years, Converge have enjoyed relatively high levels of popularity. Their popularity began to rise with the release of their breakthrough album, Jane Doe , the album that was named the number 1 album on Sputnikmusic’s “Top 100 Albums of the Decade”. This resulted in a four man line-up that is still intact today. According to Allmusic, Converge are “regarded as one of the most original and innovative bands to emerge from the punk underground”. As seen on page 18 of Brian Ewing’s book, “Don’t Hold Your Breath; Nothing New from Brian Ewing, ” published by Dark Horse Books. With BRIGHT CHANNEL Sep 16th, 2006. At Boulder Theater, Boulder, CO. Poster by Lindsey Kuhn. Lindsey Kuhn – Is there a cerebral connection somewhere between art and skateboarding? For some people skating is an art, for others art has nothing to do with skating. Then there are those who combine these two things to form a lifestyle. Lindsey Kuhn has found a way to turn his passions into career, and has been both skating and creating art for over three decades. He was born in Evanston, IL, but grew up on the coast of Mississippi where the now infamous Swamp ramp(s) stood for over ten years. In 1983 he began screen-printing t-shirts primarily to pay for maintenance of the massive ramp. Those simple t-shirts have ballooned into an internationally known company called SWAMP. Today Lindsey is best known for his silk-screened rock posters for hundreds of bands like The Melvins, Tool, Atmosphere, AC/DC and more. Swamp also does custom printing and publishes work for other artists. Lindsey moved to Austin, TX in 1990 and within a year started printing posters for Southern Californias Limagerie Gallery. Limagerie set up a small flat press shop in Austin produce rock posters for Frank Kozik, as well as, Serigraphs for other artists they represented. Such as Robert Crumb, Ed Roth, Robert Williams, Joe Colman, and others. While printing all this great art, Lindsey realized there was a demand for what he had been doing for years and seized the opportunity to learn from these lowbrow masters helping to revive the lost art of the Rock Poster. He has continued to create posters for over 20 years, keeping his D. Ethic alive by printing his own work as well as other artists from around the world through his print company called SWAMP, which is now located in Denver, CO. The Brian Jonestown Massacre is an American neo-psychedelia band formed in San Francisco in 1990. The band’s output spans psychedelic rock, folk rock and shoegaze. The Brian Jonestown Massacre originally began as a shoegaze group in San Francisco in 1988. After their debut and sophomore albums, the group quickly turned to a broader style of psychedelic rock incorporating folk rock and, later, electronica influences. The name “Brian Jonestown Massacre” is a portmanteau of The Rolling Stones’ founder and guitarist Brian Jones and the infamous mass cult suicide in Jonestown, Guyana. The band have gained media notoriety for their tumultuous working relationships and the drug addiction of their leader, Anton Newcombe. This involves the creating and production of promotional poster artwork featuring concerts, musical events, and musical releases. The White Stripes were an American rock duo, formed in 1997 in Detroit, Michigan. The group consisted of Jack White and Meg White. After releasing several singles and three albums within the Detroit music scene, The White Stripes rose to prominence in 2002, as part of the garage rock revival scene. Their successful and critically acclaimed albums White Blood Cells and Elephant drew attention from a large variety of media outlets in the United States and the United Kingdom, with the single “Seven Nation Army” and its now-iconic guitar line becoming a huge hit. The band recorded two more albums, Get Behind Me Satan in 2005 and Icky Thump in 2007, and dissolved in 2011 after a lengthy hiatus from performing and recording. The Greenhornes are an American garage rock band from Cincinnati, Ohio, formed in 1996 by vocalist/guitarist Craig Fox, bass guitarist Jack Lawrence and drummer Patrick Keeler. They released their debut album Gun For You in 1999, followed by a self-titled album in 2001. A third studio album, Dual Mono, was released in 2002, with the band taking a small hiatus. During this time, Lawrence and Keeler formed The Raconteurs with Detroit musicians and personal friends Jack White and Brendan Benson, leaving very few performances and interaction with Fox. In 2010, the band reunited once again to record a studio album, Four Stars, their first in eight years. Young Heart Attack are a high-energy rock band from Austin, Texas, that formed in 2001.
