TELEVISION (Richard Lloyd, Tom Verlaine, Richard Hell, Billy Fica). Appearing August 28-September 2, 1974 at the infamous Max’s Kansas City, In New York City. Background info: Patti Smith, after returning from a trip to Paris with her sister in early 1969, took up residence at the infamous Chelsea Hotel with Robert Mapplethorpe. By the close of 1969. She had been accepted as a fully fledged member of the Chelsea Hotel sect. Within the year, Smith would become friends with such notable residents as Janis Joplin, Gregory Corso, Leonard Cohen, William Burroughs, and Harry Smith. Just a few years later, first in 1973, Patti would be performing at Max’s Kansas City, first as the opening act for the New York Dolls (January 5-8, 1973) and then again as opening act for Phil Ochs (December 26-31, 1973) and then in 1974 as opening act for Elephant’s Memory (July 10-22, 1974) and then finally achieving headliner status, with TELEVISION as her opening act on August 28-September 2, 1974, the shows advertised in this historic poster! This is another “holy grail” of Patti Smith memorabilia from my personal collection. I’ve been collecting Patti Smith since the 1970s and this is one of only a handful of authentic posters that I have ever seen for this series of shows. This one was obtained from Richard Hell, who designed and had it printed at the time. I have seen reprints on a heavier paper, but this, one of the few surviving originals, is on a very thin paper. It measures 11 x 17 inches and is in VG+++ condition. PLEASE SEE THE ENLARGED PHOTOS FOR AN ACCURATE CONDITION REPORT. You will not be disappointed with this item in your collection. This is an authentic original (printed BEFORE the concert) poster advertising. Kenn Kweder and the Secret Kids. Appearing May 5, 1975 at the Tohill Center Theater at Glassboro State College in Glassboro, New Jersey. Patti attended Glassboro State College until 1967 so this was a return to her almamater. I could not find this concert in any of the databases of her concert history, making this one even rarer! Another extraordinarily rare poster form my personal collection. This is the only copy known to still exist. It measures 11 x 13 1/4 inches, is printed on card stock and is in VG++ condition. It has a half dozen or so creases and a couple of small corner folds. There are three pin holes top center from originally being posted at the college, a piece of tape, also top center from originally being posted. There is a small stain between the two left images of Patti. PLEASE SEE THE ENLARGED PHOTOS FOR AN ACCURATE CONDITION REPORT. You will not be disappointed with this item in your collection. This is an authentic original (printed BEFORE the event) poster advertising Patti Smith’s stage debut in. La MaMa presents FEMME FATALE: The Three Faces of Gloria. A play by Jackie Curtis – A Religious Entertainment! Starring: Jackie Curtis, PATTI SMITH, Penny Arcade, Bunny Eisenhower, and Mary Woronov as “Johnny Apollo”, and (not featured on the poster) Wayne County. Directed by Anthony I. When not writing poetry or working the till at Scribner’s bookstore, she could be found networking furiously in the hotel lobby. Within the year, Smith would become friends with such notable residents as Janis Joplin, Gregory Corso, Leonard Cohen, William Burroughs, and Harry Smith. Eager to establish contacts in the literary and artistic worlds, Smith and Mapplethorpe took to hanging out at the terminally hip Max’s Kansas City, which numbered among its diverse clientele such luminaries as Andy Warhol, Mick Jagger, Bob Dylan, Larry Rivers, and Robert Rauschenberg, as well as numerous celebrities from the realms of politics, high society, film and fashion. Among the most influential connections Patti made during this person was the theatrical impresario Tony Ingrassia. Impressed more by her striking appearance than by her as yet untried acting skills, Ingressia invite Patti to make her stage debut in the Playhouse of the Ridiculous play Femme Fatale , at the La Mama theatre in May 1970. Patti’s co-actors were the Andy Warhol stars Wayne (later to become Jayne) County, Penny Arcade, Mary Woronov, and Jackie Curtis. The play itself was written by Jackie Curtis and was loosely based on the drag queen’s experiences with her fellow associates. The success in the Theatre of the Ridiculous brought her to the attention of a number of key players in the Manhattan arts scene, including Andy Warhol and Sam Shepard. This is by far the “holy grail” of Patti Smith memorabilia. I’ve been collecting Patti SMith since the 1970s and this is the only one of these that I have ever seen. I found one on line in the La Mama archive in far lessor condition, but that’s it! To call this a very rare item is an extreme understatement! It measures 8 1/2 x 14 inches and is in VG+ condition. PLEASE SEE THE ENLARGED PHOTOS FOR AN ACCURATE CONDITION REPORT. It was at one time irregularly folded in eighths. There is some light abrasion to the right edge. It has a few small edge tears, nothing serious, and a couple of very small holes on the bottom – one below the M in LA MA MA in the lower left corner and a few in the lower right corner. A competent paper conservator could easily restore this, but I feel that it has it own special charm and authenticity as it is! You will not be disappointed with this item in your collection. Guaranteed authentic and original! Feel free to ask any questions you may have about this item. If you are outside of the U.
