Scarce and highly collectible original first printin g double-sided concert handbill advertising American jazz guitarist extraordinaire Wes Montgomery at the Theatre 140 in Brussels [Belgium] on Sunday, 4th April, 1965, accompanied by the Pim Jacobs Trio (Pim Jacobs, piano; Ruud Jacobs, bass; Han Bennink, drums). Widely considered one of the major jazz guitarists, emerging after such seminal figures as Django Reinhardt and Charlie Christian, Montgomery was a major influence on countless other guitarist, including Jimi Hendrix, Pat Metheny, Lee Ritenour, Larry Coryell, Steve Howe and George Benson. Wes Montgomery died at his home in Indianapolis on the morning of 15th June, 1968 from a heart attack. Montgomery’s home town of Indianapolis later named a park in his honor. The handbill measures 13.9 x 12.2 cm approx. 5.5 by 4.8 inches and is beautifully printed on medium-thin, smooth-finish uncoated paper stock. In excellent unfolded condition, bright and unmarked. Tyner was touring Germany in support of the. Album, recorded during April 1979 at the Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs, NJ and produced by Orrin Keepnews. AllMusic’s Michael G. Nastos awarded the album 5 stars and called it an extraordinary recording featuring some of the most remarkable, memorable and powerful music of Tyner’s career. The touring band for the European tour consisted of alto and soprano saxophonist Joe Ford, violinist John Blake, bassist Charles Fambrough, percussionist Guilherme Franco, and drummer George Johnson. Ford, Blake, Fambrough and Franco all featured on the. Tyner is considered to be one of the most influential jazz pianists of the late 20th century, an honor he earned during and after his time with John Coltrane. Tyner died at his home in New Jersey on 6th March, 2020, at the age of 81. The poster features artwork by Schneidewind, with the artist’s imprint to the bottom right corner. Formed in 1959 by Loussier, Garros and Michelot (who had previously played with Django Reinhardt and the Quintette du Hot Club de France), the Jacques Loussier Trio used the compositions of Johann Sebastian Bach as a base for jazz improvisation and made many live appearances, tours, and concerts, as well as a number of recordings. The trio began with Decca Records but changed to Philips/Phonogram in 1973. Their best known recording is “Air on the G String”, which was used to advertise the Hamlet brand of cigar in the UK for over 30 years.
