BOB DYLAN -Mint Orig. 1976 ROLLING THUNDER REVIEW CONCERT POSTER Joan Baez
A very rare concert poster from the spring 1976 leg of Bob Dylan’s legendary Rolling Thunder Review tour. Two nearly identical versions of this poster were produced; this is identified as coming from the second leg as it adds Roger McGuinn and Kinky Friedman to the lineup, deleting Ramblin’ Jack Eliott. Both posters were’tour blanks’, with an area at the bottom for specific venue information to be written in. As shows were often scheduled’on the fly’, no posters had printed venue information–it was handwritten in as shows were scheduled. At the bottom is a credit for Dylan’s Zebra Concerts, Inc. The poster is in unused Mint condition. 14 1/8? X 22 1/2? . With Recordmecca’s written lifetime guarantee of authenticity. Sessions, including Scarlett Rivera, Rob Stoner, Howie Wyeth plus Mick Ronson on guitar. The 57-date tour was composed of two legs-the first, in fall 1975, focused on the Northeastern United States and Canada, and the second, in spring 1976, covered the South and Southwestern states. In contrast to Dylan’s massive 1974 tour with The Band, the first Rolling Thunder leg was mostly smaller, more intimate venues, most of which were promoted primarily via word of mouth and last-minute announcements. The tour generated tremendous interest, as Dylan was premiering new material and appearing on the same bill with Joan Baez for the first time in 10 years. On the Road with Bob Dylan. (1978), wrote Onstage it was like a carnival. Bobby Neuwirth and the back-up band [dubbed’Guam’] warmed up the audience. Next, Dylan ambled on to do about five songs. After intermission, the curtain rose to an incredible sight, Bob and Joan, together again after all these years. Dylan and Baez usually began the second segment in the dark, duetting on’Blowin’ in the Wind. Guest artists would perform at various points, with Baez usually performing six or so songs solo, followed by Dylan, first acoustic, then joined by the band. The all-hands-on-deck finale was usually Woody Guthrie’s’This Land is Your Land. The 30-show first leg, began November 30, 1975 at the War Memorial Auditorium in Plymouth, Mass, and ended December 30 at Madison Square Garden. The 22-show second leg started April 18, 1976 at the Lakeland, Florida Civic Center. The May 23 Colorado show was filmed and recorded for a September 1976 NBC television special and live album, both titled. Dylan’s film Renaldo and Clara, including footage from the tour, was released in 1978. The tour was further documented with the album. The Bootleg Series Vol. 5: Bob Dylan Live 1975, The Rolling Thunder Review. And more recently in the 2019 pseudo-documentary. Rolling Thunder Review: A Bob Dylan Story by Martin Scorsese. A poster advertising Bob Dylan’s June, 2004 concert at Pearse Stadium in Galway, Ireland, signed by Dylan with the largest uninscribed signature we’ve seen. Dylan signed this poster for the head of a security company who worked with him for nearly three decades; included is a letter of authenticity from noted UK dealer Tracks, citing the provenance. The clear and bold signature, in black sharpie, measures 7 1/2 wide and 6 3/4 top to bottom. This is by far the most dramatic Dylan signature weve had the good fortune to offer; the only larger Dylan signature we’ve seen had a personal inscription, and wasn’t nearly this well defined. BOB DYLAN Martin Luther King Jr 1963 MARCH ON WASHINGTON Orig Concert Handbill
Here is an original item one of the most important moments in civil rights and US history! This is an authentic original (printed BEFORE the concert) handbill / flyer advertising. The Historic MARCH ON WASHINGTON FOR JOBS AND FREEDOM. This is the famous Civil Rights March where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Gave his famous “I Have A Dream ” speech. Other speakers and performers (some not listed on the handbill but well documented to have appeared and/or performed) include BOB DYLAN and JOAN BAEZ , Peter Paul & Mary, Len Chandler, Mahalia Jackson, others. This is a extremely rare item! It is one of several different handbills that were printed and distributed around the country and is perhaps the rarest version. I have only seen one other of this version in 40 years of collecting. It measures approximately 8 1/2 x 11 inches and is in VG+ condition. It was folded in eighths back at the time and is mostly flattened but would flatten more under some weight for a time. There are a few small brown age spots that are visible in my high-resolution scans. Y scans makes it appear toned but it is not. It is basically black ink on white paper. There are no tears or holes or significant damage. Amazing to have survived 57 years in any condition. Please see photos for accurate image report. The March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom , the March on Washington , or The Great March on Washington , was one of the largest political rallies for human rights in United States history and demanded civil and economic rights for African Americans. It took place in Washington, D. Thousands of Americans headed to Washington on Tuesday August 27, 1963. On Wednesday, August 28, 1963, Martin Luther King, Jr. Standing in front of the Lincoln Memorial, delivered his historic “I Have a Dream” speech in which he called for an end to racism. The march was organized by A. Philip Randolph and Bayard Rustin, who built an alliance of civil rights, labor, and religious organizations that came together under the banner of “jobs and freedom”. Estimates of the number of participants varied from 200,000 to 300,000; the most widely cited estimate is 250,000 people. Observers estimated that 75-80% of the marchers were black. The march is credited with helping to pass the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and preceded the Selma Voting Rights Movement which led to the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. The actual order of the speakers was as follows: 1. Philip Randolph – March Director, 2. Walter Reuther – AFL-CIO, 3. Roy Wilkins – NAACP, 4. John Lewis – SNNC, 5. Daisy Bates – Little Rock, Arkansas, 6. Eugene Carson Blake – United Presbyterian Church and the National Council of Churches, 7. Floyd McKissick – CORE, 8. Whitney Young – National Urban League, 9. Several smaller speeches, including Rabbi Joachim Prinz – American Jewish Congress, Mathew Ahmann – National Catholic Conference, Josephine Baker – actress, and 10. Then closing remarks by A. Philip Randolph and Bayard Rustin, March Organizers, leading with The Pledge and list of demands. Gospel legend MAHALIA JACKSON sang “How I Got Over”, and MARIAN ANDERSON sang “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands”. JOAN BAEZ led the crowds in several verses of “We Shall Overcome” and “Oh Freedom”. Dylan also performed “Only a Pawn in Their Game” and joined Joan Baez, Len Chandler and others to perform “Keep Your Eyes On The Prize”. PETER, PAUL AND MARY sang “If I Had a Hammer” and Dylan’s “Blowin’ in the Wind”. ODETTA sang “I’m On My Way”. There is an extraordinary video of Dylan’s (and Baez) performance on You Tube if you search for Bob Dylan and Joan Baez 1963 March On Washington. If you are outside of the U. ORIGINAL 1963 BOB DYLAN SYRACUSE CONCERT POSTER. At the University Regent Theatre on November 3, 1963. Early Bob Dylan posters are some of the most sought-after pieces in the hobby, as well as being some of the rarest. This concert took place on November 3, 1963 at the University Regent Theatre in Syracuse, New York. On October 24, 1963 Bob Dylan had just written “Times They Are A-Changin’ ” so it is quite possible that Dylan may have sung it for the first time at this concert. The show was produced by the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) and it is one of only a few pieces that tie Dylan with the Civil Rights movement. While reflecting on his own songwriting during this early folk era. Just weeks after this concert on November 22, 1963 John F. The concert was presented by The Congress of Racial Equality (CORE), and it exhibits a direct connection between Dylan and the Civil Rights movement. Bob Dylan is the greatest lyrical wordsmith of the past 100 years, and his recently awarded Nobel Prize was well deserved. Dylan’s historical importance is second to none and this has literally turned the few surviving concert posters from early in his career into gold. On the rare occasion that an original specimen from Dylan surfaces on the marketplace, collectors across the globe stand up and take notice. These classic rarities usually trade hands very privately and very quietly, making this lot an opportunity that may not present itself again for a very long time. This poster is considered by many to be a “holy grail” and one of the best-looking and most important of the early Dylan pieces. Very few exist in any condition. Pete Howard of PosterCentral has an excellent video blog about this exact poster. Pete actually goes into great detail about the infamous “white worms on Dylan’s ear” which is another factual difference, besides the original size of 14″ x 20″, in distinguishing that this is the original poster and not a bootlegged copy.
