Velvet Underground Holy Modal Rounders Rare BOSTON TEA PARTY’69 Concert Poster. Heres a very rare original concert poster advertising shows by the Velvet Underground and the Holy Modal Rounders, at The Boston Tea Party in January 1969. The poster, features artwork by David Lang. The poster is in good condition, is crunchy and has stains and corner folds. Please see all photos! The colors are pretty strong and bold, but there is fading over the years The poster measures approx 17x 22. Printed on thin paper, as most Tea Party Posters were….. But, not extremely thin. A rare opportunity to obtain a highly desirable Velvet Underground/Andy Warhol poster. This poster is for January 9th through the 11th, 1969 at The Boston Tea Party in Boston, Massachusetts. The first Tea Party on 53 Berkeley St. The artist is David Lang. Playwright and actor, Sam Shepard was the drummer for the Holy Modal Rounders who were on the bill for these shows. These posters were cheaply made, especially the earlier ones. I doubt anyone ever envisioned that they would someday become collector items. They were intended to be posted on walls, telephone poles, etc. To advertise that weeks performing artists only to be torn down, discarded and replaced next week with a new poster for the next show. From a Tea Party collector. True Tea Party Fact: Exact poster sizing measured from the two most common poster sizes is Large: 17.5W by 22H, and half size 11.25W by 17.5H. Also, 11 by 17 was common. Handbills generally were 8.5W by 11H. However, sometimes the posters and handbills were trimmed to fit into a glass case or on a wall where other events were being displayed. Also, the ones that hung in the venues tended to be larger. Thin poster card stock, for the majority of the posters. Some of the early ones were on paper, and other posters were on somewhat thicker card stock. Most handbills were on thin paper stock, however several were on poster card stock. I found this poster recently at an estate sale here in San Francisco. It is a poster designed by the artist Ricardo Penlaver to advertise a Miles Davis show at the legendary Keystone Korner jazz music club located in S. S North Beach neighborhood. The series of shows it promotes were from April 16th thru April 21st, 1974. This is about a month after the concerts that made up what would be called the “DARK MAGUS”album was recorded. So the group consisted of the same band : Miles Davis, Dave Liebman, Pete Cosey, Reggie Lucas, Domenique Gaumont, Michael Henderson, Al Foster, and Mtume. The show would be pretty heavy music just like the Dark Magus shows. There is actually an audience recording out there of one of these shows and is very enjoyable despite it being lo-fi. The poster was rolled up in a cardboard tube probably sometime in the 70’s. I doubt that it has seen the light of day til I found it. It measures 18″ x 22.5″. It is in fantastic shape. No tack holes, the top left corner lightly creased , not really noticeable now and most certainly not noticeable if framed. It is a very unique poster from an important era from Miles Davis’ life and work. And a very scarce poster as well. So don’t miss your chance to get this for yourself or a close friend. The legendary Boston Tea Party was a concert venue that was associated with the psychedelic movement in the late 1960’s. The venue operated from 1967 to early 1971. This was Iron Butterfly’s only concert at the Boston Tea Party (September 1970). Condition: This poster is in okay-to-good condition, as it was hung and re-hung, and re-hung again several times. Several tack holes in corners. A couple small bends around corners and a soft crease near top left corner. A small piece of image is lost due to poorly removed tape in the top left corner area… Which is hard to see because the image in the same area is white. Johnny Winter played here four times. This concert was his last before the venue shut its doors. Condition: This poster is in okay-to-good condition, as it was hung and re-hung, and re-hung again several times. Several tack holes in corners, and one corner has a tiny tear from a tack hole. There are also single tack holes around the borders as well. One light bend (NOT a crease) in top right corner, and one small gouge in right edge near top-right. The White Stripes were an American rock duo, formed in 1997 in Detroit, Michigan. The group consisted of Jack White and Meg White. After releasing several singles and three albums within the Detroit music scene, The White Stripes rose to prominence in 2002, as part of the garage rock revival scene. Their successful and critically acclaimed albums White Blood Cells and Elephant drew attention from a large variety of media outlets in the United States and the United Kingdom, with the single “Seven Nation Army” and its now-iconic guitar line becoming a huge hit. Ction is this genuine original “Summer Jam” poster from July 28th, 1973. My uncle worked a concession booth there and got this poster and kept it in excellent. This is not a reproduction and you can tell because of the text on the very bottom which reads Concept: Sokoloff / Saban/ Mahn for Sokoloff Associates, Inc. Poster measures approximately 22-1/2″ tall by 16-1/4″ wide printed on heavyweight paper. No rips, holes, stains or tape residue. Own a piece of Rock n’ Roll history. Incredibly hard to find item from the NY Club Days of Kiss before they were signed to a record contract. Measures approximately 12″ x 18″. The poster was trimmed by the previous owner around the edges due to imperfections from it being a used poster. Overall, n o imperfections worth focusing on. Furthermore, the paper has some yellowing along the borders and yellow/brownish age spots on the backside. Some of these dots can be seen thru the poster from the front. AUTHENTIC Concert Items from the Club Days of Kiss are extremely difficult to hunt down, only a small batch of these exist. Screaming to be framed and put on display within an ultra diehard Kiss fan’s poster collection. Your choice just let me know what your preference is.
