I found this poster recently at an estate sale here in San Francisco. It is a poster designed by the artist Ricardo Penlaver to advertise a Miles Davis show at the legendary Keystone Korner jazz music club located in S. S North Beach neighborhood. The series of shows it promotes were from April 16th thru April 21st, 1974. This is about a month after the concerts that made up what would be called the “DARK MAGUS”album was recorded. So the group consisted of the same band : Miles Davis, Dave Liebman, Pete Cosey, Reggie Lucas, Domenique Gaumont, Michael Henderson, Al Foster, and Mtume. The show would be pretty heavy music just like the Dark Magus shows. There is actually an audience recording out there of one of these shows and is very enjoyable despite it being lo-fi. The poster was rolled up in a cardboard tube probably sometime in the 70’s. I doubt that it has seen the light of day til I found it. It measures 18″ x 22.5″. It is in fantastic shape. No tack holes, the top left corner lightly creased , not really noticeable now and most certainly not noticeable if framed. It is a very unique poster from an important era from Miles Davis’ life and work. And a very scarce poster as well. So don’t miss your chance to get this for yourself or a close friend.
