OZZY OSBOURNE 1981 First Solo Concert Poster Long Beach CA, USA Rare Original
For your consideration is an original, promotional only concert poster from OZZY OSBOURNE. This 2-color print was designed in 1981 to promote the June 27th performance at the Long Beach Arena in California. This poster was from Ozzy’s first ever solo tour. This piece of art is in good condition. Some signs of wear are present, so please see photo for details. Measuring 14″ x 22″, this poster appears to have been produced on an Offset Press (Please see PRINTING METHOD DETAILS below). It’s a black and yellow ink on a heavy weight, cardboard. This is a wonderful opportunity to obtain such a rare and collectible item. I do not sell copies or reprints, and I guarantee the quality of everything that I list. Due to the heavy paper that this poster is printed on, it can not be rolled. Over the years I have learned a great deal about the different printing methods and paper types that are often used. Below I have outlined the important standards and differences. Offset printing is a traditional form of printing. The process involves the use of a printing press with metal plates that transfer ink onto paper. The end result is a high quality print. Since actual inks are used in offset printing, consistent color is easily achieved. Typically, concert promoters will create offset printed posters when the design calls for 1-2 colors on a sheet of paper. However, because of the cost effective nature of offset printing, large runs of full color posters are often produced on a press. Most full color promotional posters that are produced by record companies are printed in the thousands, and done so on a four-color, offset press. This is achieved by separating the image into cyan, magenta, yellow, and black. Individual plates are created for those images and when printed, the four color process produces a full color image. FULL COLOR DIGITAL PRINTING. What once was know as a Color Copier has now evolved into a Digital Color Press. These machines can produce extremely high quality images with rich, consistent color similar to the result from an offset press, but without the plates. Full color digital printing is achieved by laser printing cyan, magenta, yellow, and black toner. Concert posters have benefited from the advancement of digital printing technology and utilized the ability to accurately print full color images and photos. Color digital printing has also become more affordable, which makes a great case for producing large or small runs of posters with high resolution, multiple colors, or photos. BLACK & WHITE DIGITAL PRINTING. Black & White Digital Printing is produced on a photocopier (or copier) machine. This common process laser prints and heats a black toner onto paper. While photocopiers are often disregarded as being obsolete and low quality, it should be noted that significant advancements have been made and the overall quality has benefited. Todays high-speed photocopiers can produce sharp, high resolution images. Photocopiers have a long history in printing some of the worlds best concert posters. This is why promoters continue to utilize their capabilities when a poster design features black-only, images or text. Screen printing is a process that utilizes frames of woven fabric with an ink blocking stencil. The area of the screen that contains the image allows ink to be pulled though with a squeegee or roller. Like offset printing, each color that is used in the screen printing process requires a separate screen. Screen printed posters are highly regarded as being the most collectable and unique, as they are typically made by hand, and done so in small quantities. Coated papers are covered with gloss or other compounds that are designed to effect the color, texture, and weight of the paper. Coated papers typically offer shiny color and a slick feel. Uncoated papers are closer to the natural fiber source that was used in the manufacturing process. Uncoated papers typically offer a contrast to coated papers by muting colors and providing a more natural feel. Text weight paper is light weight and commonly used as a standard for a wide range of printed materials. Most concert posters are printed on a variety of text weight papers. Cover weight paper is heavier than a standard text weight paper and commonly referred to as card stock. Cover weight papers are typically used for business cards, note cards, and other items that benefit from being printed on a sturdy paper. Cover weight papers have a strong aesthetic value that make them ideal for screen printed posters.
