Undoubtedly the most famous poster from the Family Dog series, as well as the most recognized image ever used by the Grateful Dead. The central image is a drawing done by Edward Joseph Sullivan, a late 19th and early 20th century artist. Sullivan created this drawing to illustrate one of the quatrains of the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam. Mouse and Kelley added the color, as the original drawing was in black and white. The resulting poster has lived on through time and has increased in value at a dramatic pace. Since most of these posters were hung on walls at the time of the concerts, many exhibit severe damage and discoloration. Finding a Near Mint original poster will require a lot of patience, as well as an open checkbook. The original poster was printed on vellum and measures approximately 14 x 20. The notation The Bindweed Press San Francisco appears immediately above the right side of the ticket strip. Many originals show some degree of over-inking. The second print poster was printed on vellum and measures approximately 14 x 20. The notation 26(2) appears in the lower left corner, as well as the Bindweed credit. The third print poster was printed on uncoated index stock and measures approximately 14 x 20. The notation 26(3) appears in the lower left corner. There are seven different forgeries of this poster, all of which are listed in the guide by Eric King. By far, the most common is the unauthorized reprint that does not have the Bindweed credit and also eliminates the Mouse! Another commonly seen forgery is the one that bears the San Francisco Poster Co. Date: Sep 23, 1966 – Sep 24, 1966. Venue: Avalon Ballroom (San Francisco, CA). Size:14 3/16 x 19 15/16. A scarce poster with two original runs totaling roughly 3,000 posters. The original press runs vary slightly in color, with some having a pure orange color and some that are nearly red. The original poster was printed on vellum and. Slight color variations exist. This is referred to as the OP2. Very nice cosmetic condition overall. I find very few imperfections (very, very minor corner creasing – I hope you can tell from the pictures). The poster comes in a very nice custom made frame that goes along very well with the poster. It is ready to be hung up. The frame & poster is still in the original plastic from the framing job. What you see is what you get. This particular poster is not professionally graded nor signed by Mouse. It’s in its very nice, 100% original condition. An original concert poster for the New Order performance at The Ukranian Ballroom, New York on the 19. Ike Yard are listed as the support group. The performance was filmed for Taras Shevchenkos FACT 77 video. It measures 57.25cm x 44.5cm (22.5 inches x 17.5 inches). There is some slight creasing to the top edge. The condition is excellent. The first item is charged at the normal rate. Our Grading System Explained. Mint = As new. Near Mint = Almost like new with one or two very minor flaws. Excellent = Minor wear yet looks attractive and is perfectly usable. Very Good = Some wear and tear but overall presentable and usable. Good = Apparent wear and tear but with obvious deterioration of the condition. Poor = Extremely worn. “LIVE AT HAMMERSMITH PALAIS BALLROOM” PROMOTIONAL UK SUBWAY POSTER. Original UK promotional poster used to hype the concert on October 28, 1985 at the Hammersmith Palais Ballroom. Poster depicts an image similar to the Fables Of The Reconstruction album cover. Measures 40″ x 60″. This poster is in very good condition with some visible flaws. Some bends, soft fraying and dents along edges due to being slightly crushed while rolled and in storage, some tiny tears also on edges but nothing larger than a quarter-inch, soft bends, no large folds, no tack holes, no tape… All wear is on the edges and center area is in excellent shape.
