Bill Graham’s famous’breakfast served at dawn’ promise was a time-honored New Year’s tradition by the time the Grateful Dead, Blues Brothers and New Riders of the Purple Sage closed Winterland in 1978. On the stroke of midnight, balloons cascaded from the ceiling to the strains of Sugar Magnolia, and the Dead, partiers nonpareil, made it abundantly clear why live Dead was superior to studio Dead. John Belushi and the Blues Brothers and NRPS were part of the glorious last concert, and Bill Graham made an appearance to thank the crowd for the last 13 years. The arena, home to so much of the music, mayhem and youth of the 60’s and 70’s, yielded to progress and became the site of a new condominium. This original poster, measuring 19 x 28 1/2, is on glossy cover paper stock. It is in mint condition and signed by both artists, Stanley Mouse and Alton Kelley, in gold ink. This poster is a must-have for any serious collector. This is an oddity, as it’s been verified that there is an edition of 25 signed and numbered copies of the foil that were released by the artist directly as well as an edition of 50 signed and numbered foil copies that were given to VIPs. This one is not signed or numbered, but was obtained by a site staff connected individual. For that reason, I’m pricing this a bit below what I’ve seen other foils going for – still a great image and print on the whole. Size (approximate – please write if you’d like to get detailed dimensions): 18″W x 24″T. ALL of these pieces are in generally very good to excellent shape. Most have no flaws whatsoever. What Im offering is an ORIGINAL cardboard concert poster featuring The Young Rascals and The Continentals at the Pittsfield Boys Club in Pittsfield, MA on July 30, 1967. The poster measures 14 inch X 22 inch and is in EX condition. For cardboard posters, this one is in exceptional condition. The poster has moderate foxing/ discoloration around the border, which is typical for aged cardboard, a light horizontal crease at the bottom right border (see close-up scan), and a ding/ crease in the bottom right corner (see close-up scan). What Im offering is an ORIGINAL cardboard concert poster featuring The Beach Boys and The Box Tops (featuring Alex Chilton) on the A Caravan Of Stars tour at the Pittsfield Boys Club in Pittsfield, MA on August 8, 1968. The poster measures 14 inch X 22 ¼ inch and is in Fair to Good condition. The poster has staining/ discoloration mainly at the bottom, which is due to probable water damage at one time, dirt smudges/ surface dirt, numerous creases, a ½ inch tear at the top, a couple of surface abrasions/ scratches, and a surface ding at the letter O in the word BOYS that just breaks the surface of the poster (see close-up scan). Fillmore Bill Graham BG-75 The Doors/ Yardbirds Vintage 1967 Concert Poster NM
This concert poster is special for several reasons. One, if you are a serious fan of The Doors you’ll know from the dates (July 28, 29, & 30th, 1967) indicated for these shows that their signature song, “Light My Fire”, went to number one DURING the course of these 3 electrifying performances. There is no denying the impact and indelible imprint that this song had on the Summer of Love. Bonnie MacLean was the artist for this poster and she managed to capture something quite special and unique within the androgynous face depicted in it. There is a quizzical, indifferent, and almost aloof expression that seems to crystallize and capture that moment when America’s youth were discovering new possibilities or “doors” to enlightenment. Other performers on the bill were The Yardbirds, James Cotton Blues Band, and Ritchie Havens. This is the 2nd printing for this poster and differs very slightly from the 1st. Both posters were were printed on the same uncoated matt index and have a slightly textured quality to them. The names of the printers “Neal, Stratford + Kerr” appeared to the right of #75 on the 1st printing but were omitted on the 2nd. There is also a very thin blue line that starts at the white peacock feather and ends in the orange portion (see 2nd to last photo) which appears on the 2nd printing but not the first. The 1st printings were made before the shows; 2nd printings shortly after, in August of 1967. A rare poster of immense beauty and historical significance. Some very minor age discoloration at the back; but this is normal for a poster of this vintage. Matted and framed, this poster is incredibly striking and hypnotic. Poster will be carefully packaged and sent in a heavy-duty mailing tube for added protection.
