The Eagles Ballroom in Seattle Washington hosted blues-legend Little Milton, The Original Drifters, and Jackie Ross for an evening blues and soul on August 7th, 1965. Although not as well remembered as other blues greats like B. This original poster, measuring 16 x 24, is on thick cardboard similar to other boxing style posters. There is a small pinhole in the bottom left and top two corners, and some slight staining below ROSS. This poster, printed by Tilghman Press in Oakland, is in outstanding shape otherwise. ORIGINAL 1960/61 Little Willie John CONCERT POSTER withThe Upsetters BOXING STYLE
It is for a show on September 7th at the Club Rivera in Corpus Christi, TX. It was printed by Fred Marshall Press (Houston). It is promoting 2 singles. “Heart Break” released in 1959 and “Leave My Kitten Alone” released in 1960. The latest reference I can find with regards to Little Willie John performing with The Upsetters Band is 1961. This is how the posted was dated to 1960/61. It measures 22 1/2″ X 15″. It is a gorgeous multi color poster. Please see photos for condition. There is a 3 approx. Tear at the top of the poster just slightly to the right of center. It also looks there is some very faded pencil markings to left of the word “Presenting”. Music notes were drawn on the back of the poster. Everything else related to condition should be visible in the photos. This poster presents itself amazingly. It is incredibly rare due to the age of the poster and the early death of Little Willie John. Truly an amazing piece of music history depicting one of the blues greats! Sonny And Cher 1965 ORIGINAL Boxing Style Concert Poster
From Sunday, November 28th 1965, near the pinnacle of their career, Sonny And Cher appeared in Atlanta for two shows. This 14″ x 22″ Boxing Style poster was created to promote the show on telephone poles and in record store windows. Also on the bill were: Len Barry (of “1,2,3” hit fame and former lead singer of the Dovells), Danny Hutton (later to be lead singer of Three Dog Night, but touring at the time to promote his teen style hit “Roses And Rainbows”) The Changing Times, The Enemies and The Front Line Band. There are reproductions of these type of posters out there, but this one is a stone cold original and I know of NO other copy still in existence. The poster is a bit “wavy” and needs to be flattened. There are nail holes and damage from those nail holes when the poster was taken down from a telephone pole at the time. There has been NO restoration work of any kind done to this poster. This is a super rare silk-screened 14″ x 22″ vintage boxing style cardboard telephone pole promotional concert poster. This poster was for a show at The Strand, Redondo Beach , California on April 27th, 1989. The poster is in VG/EX condition (please look closely at front and back pictures for detailed condition), staple holes in Aprox. 6 different places as it was once attached to a telephone pole. Possibly printed by the Colby Poster Printing Co. Los Angeles, and does not have the union logo. Has been stored flat for 25+ years. I have more posters on sale! 1953 Tommy & Jimmy Dorsey Original Pre-Fillmore Boxing Style Concert Poster
The Dorsey Brothers Orchestra during the Great Depression was a whos who of jazz musicians playing around New York City. With a number of no. 1 recordings and at the height of their popularity in the 1930s, Tommy Dorsey decided to start his own orchestra. Both brothers were highly successful on their own, but reunited in 1953. During this time, they played Nebraskas Terrytown Arena on September 15th. A year later, the brothers would host a variety show on CBS called Stage Show , which included Elvis Presleys first national TV appearance. This original poster, measuring 14 1/8 x 21 3/4, is on thick cardboard similar to other boxing style posters. This poster is in remarkable MINT condition, with no pinholes, tears, or creases. And it has vibrant and rich colors. This is a magnificent big band poster! 1964 Bobby Blue Bland Original Pre-Fillmore Boxing Style Concert Poster
Bobby Blue Bland had been recording for over a decade by this Thanksgiving show on November 26th, 1964. After his R&B no. 1 hit Father Up the Road in 1957, his songs charted regularly. Bland would eventually end up in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Blues Hall of Fame, a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award winner, and number of other accolades. This show, at the Sweet Ballroom in Oakland, CA included opening acts Joe Scott, Al Braggs, Eloise Hester, and Wayne Bennett. This original poster, measuring 16 1/8 x 24 1/8, is on thick cardboard similar to other boxing style posters. This poster comes from the historic poster collection of John Goddard, owner of Bay Areas Village Music, and was said to have been removed from the venue at the show. It looks as though there was something (possibly a matte) that covered about 1/2 of the border, that when removed took off the top layer of paper. Each of the corners are considered soft, with multiple pinholes each. The top left is the worst, with a small hole to the left of Sweeets. There are also two long black marks that run through Sweets and down from the B in Ballroom. However, this is a very cool poster from some of the early R&B groups. Ike & Tina Turner Revue Original 1964 Boxing Style Concert Poster
After recording two hits, A Fool in Love and Its Gonna Work Out Fine, the infamous duo of Ike & Tina Turner struggled to hit their stride and went back to touring the chitlin circuit. By this December, 1964 show at the Continental Club in Oakland, CA, The Ike & Tina Turner Revue was starting to hit their musical stride. Soon after, they were opening for the Rolling Stones on their U. The group would continue to record, tour, and fight, seeing great success in the early 1970s. This oversize poster, measuring 17 1/8 x 28 3/8, is on cardboard similar to other boxing style posters. The colors are very vibrant, but there has been some restoration work done to the front of the poster. The poster still displays very well and would be a prized piece in any collection. ORIGINAL 1955 BO DIDDLEY BOXING STYLE CONCERT POSTER
This concert broadside advertises a concert at the Chattanooga Memorial Auditorium in Chattanooga tenn and features THE CLOVERS, BO DIDDLEY, BIG JOE TURNER, THE FIVE KEYS AND ETTA JAMES along with other blues acts. This is an incredibly early blues poster featuring Etta James and the peaches along side a very young Bo Diddley. Notice how Etta James is listed as the very last act of the poster. The poster remains in excellent condition having NO TACKHOLES NO TAPE STAINS AND NO RIPS! It has a tiny bit of foxing on the border as you can see in the poster. Finding vintage blues, jazz, Motown or black Americana posters in this condition is next to impossible. The colors on the poster remain bold and beautiful!!
