1967 Pink Floyd “14 Hour Technicolor Dream” concert poster (Alexandra Palace). A rare 1st printing concert poster from the “14 Hour Technicolor Dream” event held at Alexandra Palace on Saturday 29th-Sunday 30th April 1967. Most notably featuring a fledgling Pink Floyd, Pete Townshend from The Who, Soft Machine and Yoko Ono (who was first introduced to John Lennon at the event) among the long list of performers. This was the biggest such’happening’ to be held in the UK to date and was billed as a benefit for free speech, as represented by the counter-culture’s newspaper, International Times. Despite the rather unsympathetic atmosphere offered by the cavernous Alexandra Palace, the audience of some 7,000, which included John Lennon and Jimi Hendrix, was treated to an all-night array of music (and some chemical stimulation, no doubt). Pink Floyd took to the stage towards dawn on the Sunday morning, having come straight back from a gig in Holland. The psychedelic poster was designed by Mike McInnerney who was active participant in the London Counterculture scene in the mid-sixties. He created psychedelic posters, street murals and editorial graphics for the alternative press, galleries, clubs and events promoting the be-ins, love-Ins, happenings and demonstrations that defined the times and acted as a catalyst for the politics and social change of the period. I never tired of watching people float around during these events, occasionally blowing bubbles, totally self absorbed. I illustrated this with an image of rising bubbles containing various visual ideas from mythological to optical as a reference to varied self-contained drug states. The poster was made using two printings. As the printing progressed the inks where changed at the bottom and top of the poster and blended with one pull of the squeegee, no two posters where the same. A striking and incredibly scarce psychedelic poster from one of the most talked-about (and important) events of the early London scene. The posters presents in good original condition. Printed on very thin, “fly-poster” style paper stock, it does have the expected creasing throughout. Multiple edge tears, the largest measuring approximately 2.25 inches. Damage to the four corners from original display, including paper loss. 29.5 x 20 inches. The item “1967 PINK FLOYD 14 Hour Technicolor Dream original concert poster Beatles era” is in sale since Friday, March 15, 2019. 1962 THE BEATLES original concert poster (Heswall Jazz Club) John Lennon
1962 The Beatles original concert poster. On June 30th 1962 The Beatles performed for the second of three times at the Heswall Jazz Club. The concert actually took place at the Barnston Women’s Institute on Barnston Road, Heswall. The Fab Four appeared together with The Big Three and the still relatively unknown boys were announced as “Parlophone Recording Artists”, having JUST been signed to EMI’s small spin off label by George Martin. Martin’s first recording session with the Beatles took place at EMI’s Abbey Road Studios in London on the 6th June 1962. Martin immediately complained to Brian Epstein about Pete Best’s poor drumming and suggested they use a session drummer in his place. Already contemplating Best’s dismissal, the Beatles replaced him in mid-August with Ringo Starr, who left Rory Storm and the Hurricanes to join them. And as the saying goes, the rest is history! Offered here is an exceptionally rare original poster advertising the performance at the Barnston Women’s Institute on June 30th. The pale blue poster measures 20 x 30 inches and has been stored folded (several times each way) for many years. Bold black and red print announces “An All Star Show – Merseyside’s Joy – The Fabulous Beatles”. Printed by Arthurs Press Ltd. The condition can be described as fair/good. There are multiple tears, creasing throughout, soiling and age related toning to the paper. All the paper is present in it’s original form. No restoration or alterations have been made. This second Heswall Jaz Club outing came at a pivotal time in the Beatles history. They had just signed the recording contract which would lead them to chart topping success, a wave of Beatlemania and subsequent worldwide fame. Within days of the Heswall performance Pete Best was fired from the group and replaced by Ringo Starr, forming the Beatles line up that will forever be remembered. The item “1962 THE BEATLES original concert poster (Heswall Jazz Club) John Lennon” is in sale since Saturday, February 16, 2019. 1966 PINK FLOYD rare early original concert poster (The Roundhouse) Beatles era
Pink Floyd RARE early concert poster (The Roundhouse, London). Keynote are proud to offer one of the earliest known Pink Floyd concert posters; used to promote the “All Night Rave” that launched the radical British paper the’International Times’ at the Roundhouse, London on October 16th 1966. The event was billed as a “pop-op-costume-masque-drag ball”, with guests invited to “bring their own poison”. It was an opulent and provocative night, playing host to screenings, readings and mysterious “happenings”, not to mention performances from Soft Machine and a fledgling Pink Floyd. Although not their earliest performance under the name, it was Floyd’s first gig in front of a significant audience. The band had been discovered earlier in 1966 by London School of Economics lecturer Peter Jenner. Jenner was so impressed that he and his business partner, Andrew King, created Blackhill Enterprises and became the bands management. It was during this period that Jenner suggested they drop the “Sound” part of their name, and the band first became known as simply the Pink Floyd. So much has been written about the night in the years since, that it’s taken on an almost legendary status, with fact and myth often becoming intertwined. In a 2016 interview with Mayer Nissim, Floyd drummer Nick Mason shared some of candid recollections. Mason said the venue had. There was no lighting and no power as far as I remember. We actually had to bring in a 13-amp extension lead from some building just outside. Every now and again the power would overload and all sound would be lost while someone went to reset the fuse. When asked about the supposedly starry guest list on the night he added. It was one of those things where they expected a hundred people and a thousand turned up. Certainly Blow-Up director Michelangelo Antonioni was there and a number of other luminaries of the time. I think Paul (McCartney) was there. Theres a bit of confusion because the more likely candidate would have been John, but yes, Paul did come down. The Floyd would later return to the Roundhouse several times over, but nothing was comparable to the madness of that self-proclaimed All-Night Rave. It had become a proper venue one of the places that we played if we were on an English tour. That first night at The Roundhouse was something so much more according to Mason. The initial Roundhouse event was as much about the audience as it was about the band. Two years later that had all disappeared. It changed fairly drastically, quite quickly, as the music became commercial. This original silk screened poster is among a handful (perhaps no more than three) known survivors. Measuring 20 x 30 inches, it has emerged from the passing 52 years in fair condition. There is staining, several tears and a couple of small pieces missing from the corners. Conditional concerns must be considered just a small inconvenience when weighed against the undoubted importance and scarcity of the poster. As well as Pink Floyd’s subsequent and lasting fame, the Roundhouse and International Times both went on to become pillars of a British cultural revolution at the time. 1963 THE BEATLES original concert poster (Town Hall Ballroom Abervagenny) Lennon
1963 The Beatles original concert poster (Town Hall Ballroom, Abervagenny). A highly sought after original concert poster advertising The Beatles performance at the Town Hall Ballroom, Abervagenny on Saturday 22nd June 1963. In what was their only performance at the Town Hall, the boys played for around twenty minutes in front of a modest 600 fans. John Lennon arrived in the nick of time, having been at the BBC’s Television Theatre to record an edition of’Juke Box Jury’. After the taping finished he was rushed to Battersea Heliport and flown to Wales in a specially-chartered helicopter. He landed at the Pen y Pound football ground in Abergavenny at almost 10pm and joined the other Beatles just in time to take the stage. Paul, George and Ringo had driven to Abergavenny earlier in the day in their van and were treated to a civic reception hosted by the Mayor and Mayoress. The concert came at a time when the Fab Four’s popularity was starting to spread, although it wasn’t until late 1963 that “Beatlemania” really took hold. The poster measures 20 x 30 inches and has been stored folded for many years. There is some fading to the yellow print, mainly towards the bottom of the poster and stretching up into the’E’ and’A’ in’BEATLES’. A few small spots of soiling and a couple of minor tears to the edges and where the folds intersect. Overall in very good vintage condition. The poster originates from the collection of former British music promoter Alan Goldsmith, who has 50 years experience producing rock & roll concerts, air/stunt shows and exhibitions. He is the owner & creator of Mountfitchet Castle and The House on the Hill, the largest toy museum in the world. Goldsmith is also the author of the book Giving it Both Barrels! , in which he spills the beans on his fascinating life as a 1960’s rock promoter. Included with the poster is a signed note from Alan Goldsmith stating that it came from his personal concert poster collection and referring to the aforementioned book.
