Led Zeppelin Fillmore West 1969 Concert Poster. At the beginning of 1969, Led Zeppelin had no albums and had played together for a mere three months. By the end of the year, they had released two albums, both of which stormed the top 10, with Led Zeppelin II topping the American charts for seven weeks. It all began for the band with a three-night gig in January, 1969, opening for Country Joe & the Fish at the Fillmore West. This 2ND PRINT is on smooth glossy stock and has a Wolfgang’s Vault notation in the lower right hand margin. Printed in 2010 by the Bill Graham Archives LLC in a 500 copy run. This is a rare and original concert poster from Sonic Youth’s 1988 performance at The Fillmore. The poster features the band’s name along with other performers like Mudhoney and Die Kruezen. The image size is 13″ x 19″ and it’s framed measuring 25.5″x19″ making it a great addition to any music memorabilia collection. I have seen other variations of this poster with more of a fuchsia hue, but this is the only one I can find that is super vibrant salmon and green. Poster was designed by Arlene Owseichik who was responsible for designing several of the iconic posters from The Fillmore in San Francisco, California. The poster is in excellent condition overall. The original owner of The Fillmore property, Emma Gates Butler, hired James W. And Merritt Reid in 1910 to draw plans for an Italianate-style dance hall at the southwest corner of Fillmore and Geary. The Majestic Hall and Majestic Academy of Dancing opened in 1912 on the second and third stories of the building, where the usual fare was Wednesday night socials and masquerade balls. The Fillmore was a dance hall operating under various names and managements – The Get Acquainted Society, Ambassador Dance Hall – through the 1930s, and a roller rink through the 1940s. In 1952, local entrepreneur Charles Sullivan began to book some of the biggest names in black music into The Fillmore. The careers of the Grateful Dead, the Jefferson Airplane, Santana, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Big Brother and the Holding Company, Moby Grape, the Butterfield Blues Band, and countless others were launched from The Fillmore stage. The most significant musical talent of the day has appeared there: Jimi Hendrix, Otis Redding, Cream, Howlin’ Wolf, Captain Beefheart, Muddy Waters, The Who – well, you get the picture. GRATEFUL DEAD BG 227 FILLMORE concert poster DAVID SINGER BILL GRAHAM 1970 NM

BG227 was a study of forms: the parallel chambers of the nautilus released, or perhaps contained, the stuff of galaxies, and the brightly-defined triangle represented the spiritual. The pure beauty of the design made BG227 a piece of original art. The concert was another example of Bill Graham serving the fans both what they wanted and what they needed: The Grateful Dead and Miles Davis. The 1st printing poster lacks the “W” found after the No. 227 on the reprint. It measures 14″ x 21″ and was printed before the concert. The 2nd printing displays a white “W” after the No. 227 in the bottom left hand margin. It measures 14″ x 21″ and was printed after the concert.

These posters are really from the 60’s, nothing commemorative about them, these are the real deal. Country Joe and the Fish. April 14th, 15th, 16th 1967. The Fillmore, San Francisco, California. 13 21/64 x 21 25/32. This poster was printed before the concert in 1967 is nearly 6 decades old. Never displayed before in any way, this is a gem that has been sitting the 60’s. I love these old posters. Some of them when they were displayed around town, it was tough to even read who the acts were. Advertising has been around for a long time, but when the 60’s happened brilliant promoters came around and made these pieces of art that people covet more than a half a century later. Something special was happening in the world, a lot was going on, we were 2 years away from putting a man on the Moon and so much more. Now, there are concert posters for a million shows but before April 14th of 1967 there was a small amount of these made. Most of them were handed out and people put pinholes and tape on them and some like this survived unscathed. We go to a lot of effort each day to make sure these are preserved and will continue to have things pop up. Here today and once they’re gone, they’re gone for good.
