Absolutely stunning original first printing billboard-size concert poster advertising legendary Grateful Dead at the Festhalle in Frankfurt [Germany] on Monday, 22nd October, 1990, presented by Marek Lieberberg. The show in Frankfurt was part of the Dead’s Fall 1990 European tour in support of the newly released. Recorded live in late 1989 and early 1990, the album was produced by John Cutler and Phil Lesh. It is dedicated to Clifton Hanger, a name Brent Mydland used to sign in hotel guestbooks. Mydland died of a drug overdose on 26th July, 1990 during this album’s post-production. The album was certified Gold by the RIAA on 27th November, 1990. The Grateful Dead were pretty much an American phenomenon, and for some reason never really made it big in Europe. The poster is HUGE and measures a massive 84.0 x 118.5 cm approx. 33.1″ by 46.7″ inches and is beautifully printed on thin, matte-coated paper stock. In excellent unfolded condition, ready to frame. Ultra Rare (only saw 3 copies offered in over 15 years) vintage concert poster created for the Blues singers’ show at the Hill Auditorium in Ann Arbor, MI on Octoberber 8th 1971. Unlike their counterparts from San Francisco (Fillmore, family Dog, etc) The Michigan concert posters were printed in VERY small quantities (less than 100) making them extremely rare to find. AMERICAN FOLK BLUES FESTIVAL’65. And highly collectible original first printing concert poster designed to promote the “American Folk Blues Festival” October 1965 European package tour, presented by Lippmann+Rau. Performing artists included Big Mama Thornton, Lonesome Jimmy Lee, Eddie Boyd, Buddy Guy, Doctor Ross, Freddie Below, J. Lenoir, Big Shakey Horton, Roosevelt Sykes, and Mississippi Fred McDowell. It was legendary German promoters Horst Lippmann and Fritz Rau who were responsible for the festival since its start back in 1962 where they stuck upon the idea of bringing a cross section of American blues musicians to Europe for a package tour. Dubbed “The American Folk Blues Festival, ” the shows were a major success and played a vital role in exposing American roots music to a new and appreciative audience abroad, especially in the United Kingdom, where the concerts proved to be a significant eye-opener for the founding members of the British blues-rock boom. Lippman and Rau turned the tour into an annual event and, fortunately, arranged for their artists to appear on a series of television specials recorded for German television. The poster features delicate graphic artwork by Hans Michel and Günther Kieser, with their imprint to the lower right side border. The poster measures 60.0 x 84.3 cm approx. 23.6? By 33.2? Inches and is beautifully printed in multi-color on thin, uncoated paper stock. A couple of tiny pin holes to the corners and a few pieces of acid-free archival tape on the rear, else in near excellent unfolded condition. Then they came back to London about a week later. This is the really rare one, the one with the UK dates. This poster has seen over five decades of life but it’s flawless, been kept in the same frame since. 14 x 21 5/8 inches. Has 4 small holes in corners when it was up.
