The main footage was filmed over four days in October 1971, without an audience, using the band’s touring equipment. Additional studio footage was added for the original 1972 release. Subsequent Versions and Re-releases. The film was re-released with additional studio material and interviews at Abbey Road Studios, extending the runtime. A director’s cut was released on DVD, incorporating CGI effects and rearranged sequences. Blu-ray edition re-arranged the 2003 version’s song order. A 4K restoration titled Pink Floyd at Pompeii – MCMLXXII was shown in cinemas and released on home media, accompanied by a remixed album of songs and outtakes. The film is notable for its innovative approach of filming a live performance without an audience, influencing many subsequent concert films.
