1962 THE BEATLES original concert poster (Heswall Jazz Club) John Lennon
1962 The Beatles original concert poster. On June 30th 1962 The Beatles performed for the second of three times at the Heswall Jazz Club. The concert actually took place at the Barnston Women’s Institute on Barnston Road, Heswall. The Fab Four appeared together with The Big Three and the still relatively unknown boys were announced as “Parlophone Recording Artists”, having JUST been signed to EMI’s small spin off label by George Martin. Martin’s first recording session with the Beatles took place at EMI’s Abbey Road Studios in London on the 6th June 1962. Martin immediately complained to Brian Epstein about Pete Best’s poor drumming and suggested they use a session drummer in his place. Already contemplating Best’s dismissal, the Beatles replaced him in mid-August with Ringo Starr, who left Rory Storm and the Hurricanes to join them. And as the saying goes, the rest is history! Offered here is an exceptionally rare original poster advertising the performance at the Barnston Women’s Institute on June 30th. The pale blue poster measures 20 x 30 inches and has been stored folded (several times each way) for many years. Bold black and red print announces “An All Star Show – Merseyside’s Joy – The Fabulous Beatles”. Printed by Arthurs Press Ltd. The condition can be described as fair/good. There are multiple tears, creasing throughout, soiling and age related toning to the paper. All the paper is present in it’s original form. No restoration or alterations have been made. This second Heswall Jaz Club outing came at a pivotal time in the Beatles history. They had just signed the recording contract which would lead them to chart topping success, a wave of Beatlemania and subsequent worldwide fame. Within days of the Heswall performance Pete Best was fired from the group and replaced by Ringo Starr, forming the Beatles line up that will forever be remembered.
