I LOVE this interesting piece as a Bowie Fan and collector, but it needs to be framed and find a new home. This concert handbill was created for the show BOWIE gave at the Fisher Theater in Detroit MI, on October 8, 1972. This is the 1st printing as the handbill was quickly reprinted with the SPIDERS FROM MARS because it only read & the Spiders. Legend is that only a few of these handbills were distributed when Bowie changed the name of his band from “the Spiders” to “the Spiders from Mars”. The handbills were then reprinted with the full name. I can believe that Bowie took artistic license or the promoters wanted the change. These first versions may have still been at the printer and not fully handed out on the street. (I have never seen the second printing; maybe it was too late to promote at that point). I have seen white paper handbills and those might be reprints or paper that has not aged. Size is 5.75 x 11.25 (14×29 cm). This is considered an. Extra-large concert handbill or small poster promoting David Bowie & the Spiders from Mars. Presented by Gemini and Wabx. From the Ziggy Stardust tour in 1972, (see note about David’s style change below). The art was created by Donnie Dope, a. Don Forsythe, who also designed other great pieces for the Grande Ballroom. This illustration was from a photograph from Bowie’s Hunky Dory “Changes” period. There is supposed to be “hidden” items in the background art and stippling. This concert at the Fisher Theater in Detroit was the last show Russ Gibb ever promoted. By the time the concert happened, Bowie had drastically changed his appearance and stage persona so the image of him on the handbill is slightly outdated compared more folksy when compared to his popular and legendary Ziggy Stardust look. If you are an early fan… You will love this. Maybe you even went to this concert! Condition: Near-Mint, with normal age wear, (see photos) which is minimal. Stock is heavier than paper and is cream colored and has 1 color, brown ink for the artwork. I marked the places so you can see. The stains are not that noticeable and no corner is dog eared. It is also not warped. It has always been flat, no push pin holes. I will package the artwork flat and not roll it up. NO mold or smoke smell. Take advantage as a Bowie Fan and own a piece of history! Thank you for looking.

BAD RELIGION – “Recipe For Hate World Tour 1993″ CONCERT POSTER. This is one of four Coop screen prints I found in my dad’s collection rolled up in a large cardboard tube, probably since the 1990’s. He was an enthusiastic collector with many artist friends but I don’t know how he acquired these. None of these prints are signed and numbered by Coop like others I’ve seen, so they exist outside the Limited Edition (of 200, in this case). The blue ink in the dollar section appears to be a little thin, which might be the reason this one didn’t make in into the final cut of 200? I’m no expert in the limited edition rock poster world so if anyone has more information on signing and numbering, please let me know. In any case, it is clearly a classic vivid screen print by Coop, even if less than perfectly printed. The size is 16″ x 23″. From Coop’s Wikipedia page. Coop (real name Chris Cooper) is a hot rod. Artist working from Los Angeles. He was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In 1968, and describes his occupation as Insensitive Artiste. His work consists primarily of barely clothed or nude Bettie Page. Style 1950s soft pornography. Monsters, with the female characters often taking the role of “Devil-Women”. The image most often associated with his work however is the face of a grinning devil with a smoking cigar clamped in its teeth. In 1991, pop artist Frank Kozik. Convinced Coop to expand into poster art. Coop has designed posters for rock bands such as Boss Hog. And Rocket from the Crypt. As well as for the Reverend Horton Heat. Coop has also provided art for several Sympathy for the Record Industry. Coop is an avid hot rod enthusiast and well known amongst the Kustom Kulture. He makes an annual appearance at the Mooneyes. He released a book in 2001 called Devil’s Advocate: The Art of Coop. Which was given a 2002 Firecracker Alternative Book Award. In 2004 he released The Big Fat One, containing 1008 pages of collected sketches, and has recently formed a collaboration with Hot Wheels. To sell a series of miniature “Coop-Customized” hot rods. His latest book, Idle Hands, was published in 2012 by Baby Tattoo Books, and focuses on his fine art, dating from 2001 to 2012. Please note that this poster is not pencil signed and numbered by Coop so I’m guessing it is a print that didn’t make it into the final signed and numbered edition of 200.
